Only four hours, forty minutes, and fifty three seconds until I leave for the week! I'm going to go home and socialize with a couple of the baby lovebirds . They are old enough now. We banded all four and all four lost the bands and now they are too big to band so this clutch will not have them I guess. They are very cute though. To see pictures go to my buzznet album. As you all know, I'm a member of the 501st Stormtrooper Legion. The Legion's creator, Albin, has a daughter Katie who has cancer. Our group has been doing a lot of charity work to raise money for Katie, but we just got a rather depressing update from Albin on our legion message board. I've taken out their home address, but besides that everything is the original. We met with the doctors on Wednesday to discuss the recent PET scans. The information confirmed that the gray masses in the MRI scans are indeed cancerous. The tumor has been growing aggressively and now threatens Katie's life. The doctors were very direct with us, telling us that the chemo and radiation could be considered a failure, and that now medical science had nothing more to offer Katie. We have been told to prepare for the end. Referrals have been made to Hospice and we are making arrangements for how we want to treat Katie with 'comfort medicine' in the final stages of the disease. As we all know, and as was brought to my attention once again recently, those TV shows that always try to do the top 100 countdown of movie quotes never quite get it right. They get all the logical ones in (for the most part), but tend to forget some really memorable lines. Now, I’m not saying that my taste would suit everyone, but I’d like to give it a shot in the tiny forum I have available to me – my blog. They won’t be in any particular order. That’s just too much for me to think about. And instead of my top 100 movie quotes, I’m going to do my top 50 movie quotes and my top 50 book quotes. Books are just as important, if not more so, so they get included too. First off – movies then the next entry will be about books (and maybe some other quotes too). This is a mini review because the guys at L&N line already did it a bunch of times and said everything I have to say so go read theirs too. There are no spoilers in mine, I don't think. This movie redeems Batman. And I don't mean the character; I mean the films. I've loved Batman forever, but I could never stomach the movies. They were always poorly done and too comic-bookish. I know that everyone says they are a comic book and so should look like that, but the film makers really sacrificed style for comic book look. Batman Begins doesn't do that. A quick summary - Christian Bale is my new favorite actor (okay, not really. Patrick Stewart still takes the cake, but he's close). Katie Holmes' character could have been played by anyone, but she was fine and didn't ruin the film or anything. I'm so excited! Let me start at the beginning. Yesterday morning John and I got up and went to early mass at his church . Father Kevin did it this time. He's John's age. The other priest, Father Mike, is older. I liked Father Kevin. He seems pretty nice. And he looks EXACTLY like Mark Green from ER. Anyway, I sat there quietly through the whole thing. I don't say "amen" because I was taught that when you say that it means you're in full agreement with the prayer that was just offered and since JWs pray in a different way (ours aren't rehearsed and recited together. They're done by one person and they're all individual unique prayers) I don't say "amen". But I still listened and sang along for the most part. For our nine month anniversary John got me a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card. Here is how I spent it: Hinterland – I just finished this and it was not quite what I expected. The back made it sound like an investigative reporter gets caught up in a skins gang. Not quite. It’s more just a bunch of nutty terrorists who lead cultish lives. It was disappointing in that I expected something else, but if I had read it without any perceptions I would have liked it more. To Have and to Hold – I’m reading this now. It’s a typical Jane Green novel. But I find them comforting. I love her novel Bookends. Uncle Tom’s Cabin – despite having knowledge of this book and what it’s about (I haven’t been living in a cave for my entire life) I have never read it. I found it on the summer reading list book table and thought “why not?” I haven’t gotten to it yet. I’m not in the mood for something depressing right now. But I will. It's nine o'clock on a Saturday. . . In the morning, that is. And guess where I am. Nope, not at home snuggled up on the couch with a good book. Nope, not out hanging out with Sarah and Paul. Nope, not even off visiting with my parents. I am at work. You heard right. Work. Ever since I started here back in February my boss has occasionally said on a Friday that if I want to I'm welcome to come in on the weekend. Now, we all know that when a boss says "welcome to" it means "come in on the weekend and get some work done or you're not going to be here long". Thing is, I haven't been able to the three or four other times he's asked due to one reason or another. Once it was because we were leaving for CIII soon and I hadn't finished packing and such. The weekends are my own. That's the time I have to myself so that I won't kill my co-workers during normal business hours. But here I am. I'm a temp and I figure if I want to stay here...

Well, Revenge of the Sith opened last night. I’m told it made 16.5 million with just its midnight show. I’m not surprised. This was the long-anticipated end to a huge saga. And I have to say that after having last night and some of today to reflect on it, I was a bit disappointed. The die-hard fans are furious right now, I’m sure. “What? But. . .it’s Star Wars. . .How can you not like it??” I will tell you how. First of all, I’m not saying I hated it . I enjoyed it enough and I definitely plan to see it again. There was so much to see on screen that you certainly need to view it more than once to take it all in properly. I did not hate every second of it. I left with a mostly satisfied feeling. But let’s cover what did bother me and then we’ll end on a high note with the things I really enjoyed. WARNING: HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD. 1. Today is the day folks. Well, for me anyway. Last night was the “day” for some of you I’m sure. But I don’t want to hear about it because I’m an adult and therefore had to go to work this morning and therefore could not see the midnight showing of Star Wars last night. Lucas finally wraps up his epic in, hopefully, the best way possible in Revenge of the Sith. Return of the Jedi was originally going to be Revenge of the Jedi, but someone pointed out to Lucas that Jedi wouldn’t seek Revenge. And also, since all his films are PG, “Revenge” was a bit too strong. If I see one child under thirteen in that theater tonight I will be so disappointed. It’s a 7:00 show so hopefully that will weed out some of the kiddies. It’s not that I dislike children. It’s that I dislike badly behaved children. Side note – I am so sped. I completely forgot to mention that when I got to Sarah and Paul’s house on Sunday morning Sarah said to Paul, “Should I give it to her now?” I thought she had gotten a gift for the other Sara (Joe’s ex girlfriend) because she was there to pick up and babysit Sadie for the day. But it was a gift for me! They gave me a Darth Tater ! I hadn’t gotten one yet, but Sarah said as soon as they came out she had ordered a couple online, one for me and one for Sadie. Isn’t that cute? So I have a Darth Tater sitting on my desk at home now and I’m debating bringing him to work. He’s the only one I have so if someone steals him I’d be really upset. But I just thought that was so cool. I never get random little gifts like that. : )

I’m kind of frustrated right now. I’m sitting here at work and I have today, tomorrow, and Friday left before my vacation begins. The week is going by really quick when I think about it in terms of having to get on a plane when this week ends. But it’s going by slowly day to day when I’m just sitting here waiting to go home. Why is it that in life we are always waiting? Ever since I was little I’ve been waiting to grow up, graduate eighth grade, then graduate high school. On to college (I never made it past the second half of my third year). Then when you actually are an adult it’s time to wait for other things – getting married, buying a home, having kids, finding the right job, getting a raise, vacation time. . .yadda yadda yadda. I know that through the rest of this week I will wait for it to end. Today I wait to get out of here so that John and I can go to Sarah and Paul's and have some fun. Tomorrow I will wait to get out of work because I have to go to H&R and get my taxe...

Spring has sprung. Until Sunday. A co-worker told me it may snow. That's New England for ya. But it's Friday and I get to go home soon. Last night I came home tired from my day. As I walked up the hallway to our condo I could smell brownies baking. I knew it had to be John because he loves making brownies for me to surprise me. I unlocked the door and there was Pixel running to greet me (update on her in next entry). I looked to my right into our adorable galley kitchen to see John standing over not just a pan full of brownies, but also two bowls of delicious pasta from Whole Foods with Valerie’s spaghetti sauce on top. She gave us some on Sunday before we left. John had set the table, made dinner, and made desert. It was so yummy. I was grinning ear to ear because I’ve been having such a rough time of it lately and here was my boyfriend making me dinner just as I walked in the door. Afterwards we went over to CVS and finally got some of our digital photos printed out. It was a really nice night with some rousing Dragonlance discussion over dinner. : )

I was up late last night. I thought that ER would be on so after I had read aloud to John from “Just a Geek” for about an hour (have I mentioned I totally love that he lets me read books to him? It’s great. We’re moving on to either Erma Bombeck or Michael Jan Friedman next), I went out to the living room to watch one of my favorites. Law and Order was on instead. I started flipping through channels and came across an old favorite – Judging Amy. The show isn’t that old, but “old favorite” just sounds comfortable. So I lay on our nice new couch from John’s aunt and watched the show until 11:00.
